Characteristic
Copper(II) fluoride is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula CuF2. It is a white crystalline, hygroscopic solid with a rutile-type crystal structure, similar to other fluorides of chemical formulae MF2 (where M is a metal).
Chemical formula: CuF2
Molar mass: 101.543 g/mol
Appearance: White crystalline powder
When hydrated: Blue
Density: 4.23 g/cm3
Melting point: 836 °C (1,537 °F; 1,109 K)
Boiling point: 1,676 °C (3,049 °F; 1,949 K)
Solubility in other solvents: Hygroscopic
Magnetic susceptibility (χ): +1050.0•10−6 cm3/mol
Application
Cathodes in nonaqueous galvanic cells, high temp. fluorinating agent.Copper(II) fluoride is used in the preparation of fluorobenzene by reacting with benzene. It is also used in galvanic cells, high-temperature fluorinating agent and fluxing iron castings. Further, it is used as an efficient catalyst in Chan-Lam-Evans coupling reaction to synthesis the diaryl- ether compounds.
