Applications of tantalum sputtering target

High performance tantalum sputtering materials can be used for film coating, CD-ROM, decoration, flat panel display, functional coating, and other optical information storage space industry, glass coating industry such as automotive glass and building glass, optical communication, etc.

1. Capacitor class

About half of the tantalum consumed each year goes to the electronics industry, mainly as powder for capacitors and wires. Tantalum capacitors are favored for space-sensitive high-end applications in telecommunications, data storage and implantable medical devices.

2. Semiconductor

A tantalum sputtering target is "sputtered" onto a semiconductor substrate using a physical vapor deposition (PVD) process to form a thin film diffusion barrier to protect the copper interconnect. Tantalum sputtering targets are also used in a variety of other products, including magnetic storage media, inkjet printer heads and flat panel displays.

3. Engine turbine blade

The high melting point and corrosion resistance of this metal make it well suited for alloying applications. Tantalum is used in nickel-based superalloys, mainly for turbine blades in aircraft engines and land-based gas turbines.

4. Chemical processing equipment

Tantalum's extreme corrosion resistance and high temperature properties make the metal an ideal construction material for lining containers, pipes, valves and heat exchangers in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
