Manganese(II,III) oxide is the chemical compound with formula Mn3O4. Manganese is present in two oxidation states +2 and +3 and the formula is sometimes written as MnO.Mn2O3. Trimanganese tetroxide is a black tetragonal crystal, crystallized by burning, belonging to the spinel class, in which divalent and trivalent manganese ions are distributed in two different lattice positions.

Application


Trimanganese tetroxide is mainly used in the electronic industry as raw material for the production of soft magnetic ferrite, magnetic cores for storing information in electronic computers, magnetic disks and magnetic tapes, transformers for telephone and high quality inductors, television backtracking transformers, magnetic recording heads, inductors, magnetic amplifiers, saturation inductors, antenna rods, etc.It is also used as a pigment for paints and paints.

Manganese tetroxide can be used as a catalyst for many reactions, such as oxidation of methane and carbon monoxide, decomposition of nitric oxide, reduction of nitrobenzene, and catalytic combustion of organic matter.
