Nickel sulfate properties

Green crystal, square crystal system. Specific gravity 2.07, below 31.5°C crystallizes as NiSO.7H2O. 31.5-53.3°C is a salt of hexahydrate. 103.3°C loses six crystal water, easily soluble in water, aqueous solution is acidic, slightly soluble in acid, ammonia, toxic.

Nickel sulfate has one, two, four, six, seven hydrate and anhydrous, seven hydrate is naturally produced alum, green transparent crystal. Nickel sulfate heptahydrate loses six molecules of water of crystallization at 103℃, and loses all water of crystallization at 280℃ to become anhydrous NiSO4, which is yellow-green crystal with specific gravity of 3.68, soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol and ether, decomposes at 840℃, loses sulfate and becomes nickel oxide.

Nickel Sulfate preparation

1). Nickel metal method: add water in the reactor, then add sulfuric acid to make 30Be, then add nickel metal, and add nitric acid in several times for reaction. When the reaction concentration reaches 48~50 Be, crystallize and filter, wash the crude crystals with water and add water to dissolve into 30 Be, then add barium carbonate to neutralize the free acid, then add hydrogen peroxide to oxidize the divalent iron and hydrolyze it, after clarifying the purified solution, add a small amount of sulfuric acid to adjust the pH value 3~4, then concentrate the crystals and centrifuge to dehydrate to produce nickel sulfate.

Ni+H2SO4+2HNO3→NiSO4+2H2O+2NO2↑

2). Recovery method: The electrolytic waste solution in the copper refining process is purified, crystallized and dehydrated to obtain nickel sulfate.

3). Produce nickel sulfate from nickel-containing waste solution of cobalt production: Firstly, nickel carbonate is precipitated from the waste nickel sulfate solution of cobalt salt production with soda ash solution, and then nickel carbonate is dissolved in sulfuric acid to produce nickel sulfate.

Nickel Sulfate applications

It is mainly used in electroplating industry as the main raw material for electroplating nickel and chemical nickel, and also the main raw material for producing other nickel salts (such as nickel oxide, nickel ammonium sulfate, nickel carbonate, etc.). The printing and dyeing industry is used to produce phthalocyanine brilliant blue complexing agent, which can be used as a mordant for reducing dyes. The pharmaceutical industry is used as a catalyst for the oxidation reaction in the production of vitamin C. In the production of hardened oil, it is a catalyst for the hydrogenation of fats and oils. In addition, it is also used in the production of nickel-cadmium batteries and the production of cemented carbide, etc.

Nickel Sulfate packaging

Packed in plastic bags with inner lining, plastic woven bags with outer lining, sacks or cardboard drums, and the package should be clearly marked.

Nickel Sulfate -Note for transportation

Prevent storage under active chlorine gas and hot sun. Avoid contact with sharp female mouth or nails to prevent scratching.
