What are rare earth magnets?

Magnetic material and magnetic material are one meaning, but the name is not the same!

Rare earth permanent magnet material is a kind of magnetic material made of samarium, neodymium mixed rare earth metal and transition metal (such as cobalt, iron, etc.) alloy by powder metallurgy pressing sintering, magnetized by magnetic field.

Rare earth permanent magnets are samarium cobalt (SmCo) permanent magnets and NdFeB permanent magnets.  Among them, the magnetic energy product of SmCo magnets is between 15--30MGOe, and that of NdFeB magnets is between 27--50MGOe, which is known as the "permanent magnet King" and the highest magnetic permanent magnet material at present.  Samarium cobalt permanent magnets, despite their excellent magnetic properties, contain scarce reserves of the rare earth metals samarium and cobalt, the scarce and expensive strategic metal cobalt, and their development has been greatly limited.

Application of rare earth elements

The development of China's rare earth permanent magnet industry began in the late 1960s, when the leading product was samarium-cobalt permanent magnet. The world sales volume of samarium-cobalt permanent magnets was 630 tons, and China's sales volume was 90.5 tons (including SmCo magnetic powder), which was mainly used for military technology.

Rare earth permanent magnet material is now known to have the highest comprehensive performance of a permanent magnet material, it is more than 100 times higher than the magnetic steel used in the nineties century, much superior to ferrite, aluminum, nickel and cobalt performance, than expensive platinum and cobalt alloy magnetic performance is twice as high. The use of rare earth permanent magnet materials not only promotes the miniaturization of permanent magnet devices, improves the performance of products, but also promotes the generation of some special devices. Therefore, the emergence of rare earth permanent magnet materials has aroused great attention and developed rapidly in the whole country. The properties of rare earth permanent magnetic materials developed and produced in China are close to or up to the international advanced level.
