Strategic Materials Australia successfully produces rare earth permanent magnets.

On February 11, 2021, Strategic Materials Australia (ASM) announced that its pilot plant in South Korea, Ziron Tech, produced NdFeB magnetic powder, which was processed by Korea Rare Metals Corporation (Kiram) and successfully produced two kilograms of pre-sintered permanent magnets.

David Woodall, ASM Managing Director, said: "This achievement is due to the incredible collaboration between Ziron Tech and Kiram."This shows that our integrated business model -- being both a miner and a metals producer on the Dubbo project -- is in line with the Korean government's 'green' initiative."

David Woodall said, "We have now identified high quality and high purity permanent magnet alloys and titanium powders that ASM can provide to the Korean and global markets. ASM is now planning to move ahead with plant construction in the next few months, incorporating titanium powder and permanent magnet powder production plans, with full operation expected by mid-2022."
