Sodium Fluoride Physical Properties
Sodium fluoride is an ionic compound, which is a colorless crystal or white solid at room temperature. Its aqueous solution can make glass fuzzy, but its dry crystal or powder can be stored in glass bottles. Sodium fluoride aqueous solution is weakly alkaline and can be dissolved in hydrofluoric acid to form sodium bifluoride, which can corrode glass.

Application fields of sodium fluoride
Sodium fluoride is mainly used in various industries such as papermaking, water treatment, enamel, painting, tanning, building materials, and agriculture. Used as phosphating accelerator, wood preservative, water treatment agent, agricultural insecticide, brewing fungicide, ceramic pigment, welding flux, alkaline zincate galvanizing additive.
1. Sodium fluoride is an important fluoride salt and a raw material for the manufacture of other fluorides.
2. It is used as an agricultural pesticide and has a bactericidal effect.
3. As a wood preservative, water treatment agent, ceramic pigment, manufacture of boiling steel, light metal fluoride salt treatment agent, smelting and refining and as a protective layer, as a UF3 adsorbent in the nuclear industry.
4. In the production of sealing materials and brake pads, it can increase the wear resistance. The mechanical sheet planer inserts steel to increase the welding strength.
5. Enamel pharmaceutical industry, paper production and building materials, etc.
6. Used as a phosphating accelerator in the coating industry to stabilize the phosphating solution, refine the phosphating, and improve the performance of the phosphating film. In the phosphating of aluminum and its alloys, Al3+, which has a very harmful negative catalytic effect, is blocked to make the phosphating go smoothly. Alkaline zincate galvanizing additive. Cleaning fluids for steel and other metals, solder fluxes and fluxes.
7. Spirit flux and opacifying agent for ceramic glass and enamel, rawhide and skin treatment in tanning industry, and adhesive anticorrosion.
Sodium fluoride countermeasures
1. Accidental release measures
Isolate the leakage pollution area, and set warning signs around it. It is recommended that emergency personnel wear gas masks and corresponding work clothes. Do not come into direct contact with spilled material. Avoid dust, collect with a clean shovel in a dry, clean, covered container. If a large amount of leakage is collected and recycled or transported to a waste disposal site for disposal.
2. Protective measures
Respiratory system protection: When the concentration in the air exceeds the standard, a gas mask should be worn. When emergency rescue or escape, it is recommended to wear self-contained breathing apparatus.
Eye Protection: Wear chemical safety goggles.
Protective Clothing: Wear appropriate protective clothing.
Hand Protection: Wear chemical resistant gloves.
Others: Smoking, eating and drinking are prohibited at the work site. After work, shower and change clothes. Do not bring work clothes to non-work places. Store poison-contaminated clothes separately and wash them for later use. Practice good hygiene.
3. First aid measures
Skin contact: Take off contaminated clothing, rinse thoroughly with running water immediately.
Eye contact: Immediately raise the eyelids, rinse with flowing water for 10 minutes or rinse with 2% sodium bicarbonate solution.
Inhalation: Get away from the scene to fresh air. Give artificial respiration if necessary. Seek medical attention.
Ingestion: When the patient is awake, drink plenty of warm water, induce vomiting, and perform gastric lavage as soon as possible. Seek medical attention.
Fire extinguishing method: non-combustible. Extinguishing media available around the fire. Extinguish fire with plenty of water. Use water spray to disperse fumes and irritating gases.
Packaging, storage and transportation of sodium fluoride
Method of packing
Fiberboard barrels, plywood barrels, cardboard barrels outside plastic bags or two-layer kraft paper bags; plastic barrels outside plastic bags (solid); plastic barrels (liquid); two-layer plastic bags or one-layer plastic bags outside sacks, plastic woven bags, latex Cloth bag; composite plastic woven bag outside plastic bag (polypropylene three-in-one bag, polyethylene three-in-one bag, polypropylene two-in-one bag, polyethylene two-in-one bag); plastic bag or two-layer kraft paper bag outside ordinary wooden box ;Screw-top glass bottles, glass bottles with iron caps, plastic bottles or metal barrels (cans) outside ordinary wooden boxes; screw-top glass bottles, plastic bottles or tin-plated thin steel barrels (cans) outside full-floor lattice boxes, fiberboards boxes or plywood boxes.
Precautions for storage and transportation
Before transportation, check whether the packaging container is complete and sealed. During transportation, ensure that the container does not leak, collapse, fall, or be damaged. It is strictly forbidden to mix with acids, oxidants, food and food additives. The transport vehicle should be equipped with leakage emergency treatment equipment during transportation. During transportation, it should be protected from sun exposure, rain and high temperature. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse. The storage temperature should not exceed 30°C, and the relative humidity should not exceed 80%. The package is sealed. It should be stored separately from acids and food chemicals, and should not be stored together. Storage areas should be equipped with suitable materials to contain spills.
