Technical Description of titanium carbide


Nano titanium carbide, ultrafine titanium carbide powder prepared by variable current laser ion beam gas phase method, has high purity, small particle size distribution range, high specific surface area, high surface activity, high temperature resistance, oxidation resistance, is a good melt resistant wear-resistant materials, applied to hard alloy, wear-resistant superhard materials above;

Titanium carbide melting point of about 3200℃, is an important component of hard alloy, with high hardness, corrosion resistance, good thermal stability and other characteristics, used in the manufacture of wear-resistant materials, cutting tools, molds, melting metal crucible and many other fields;

Because the particle size is small, it has high surface activity, good electrical conductivity, and excellent properties such as chemical inertia for iron and steel metals;  Adding 1/10,000 nano titanium carbide can reduce the sintering temperature of titanium carbide ceramic about 200 degrees, and can refine the ceramic grain, improve the sintering performance of ceramics;

Nano titanium carbide can be used as ceramic reinforcement phase to effectively improve the mechanical properties and electrical conductivity of metal and ceramic matrix materials.


Application of titanium carbide


1.nano titanium carbide used in aerospace components: considering the refractory nano carbide TiC, ZrC has more than 3000 ℃ melting point, has good high temperature strength, and good compatibility with tungsten, similar thermal expansion coefficient, and has much lower density than tungsten.  The strength of nano-TicP/W and ZrCp/ W composites increases with increasing temperature.  Nano-ticp/W and ZrCp/ W have high strength at 1000℃ and 800℃ respectively, which is obviously improved compared with their room temperature strength.  Then the temperature continued to rise and the intensity dropped.  The unique high temperature strength of the composite is attributed to the fact that the W matrix changes from brittle to plastic with the increase of temperature, which makes the nano-tic and ZrC particles strengthen the plastic W matrix at high temperature, resulting in good high temperature strength of the composite. The nano-tic particles have better high-temperature strengthening function than the nano-ZRC particles.

2.Nano titanium carbide foam ceramics: foam ceramics as a filter for a variety of fluid inclusions can be effectively removed, the filtration mechanism is agitation and adsorption.  The filter requires the chemical stability of the material, especially in the metallurgical industry with high melting point filter, so this kind of material to oxide in the majority, but also to adapt to the filter of metal melt, the main pursuit of thermal shock resistance.  Nano titanium carbide foam ceramics have higher strength, hardness, thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity and heat and corrosion resistance than oxide foam ceramics.

3.used in manufacturing wear-resistant materials, cutting tools, molds, melting metal crucible and many other fields of transparent titanium carbide ceramics is a good optical material;  Abrasives and abrasives industry titanium carbide abrasives are ideal materials to replace alumina, silicon carbide, boron carbide, chromium oxide and other traditional grinding materials;  The grinding ability of nano titanium carbide is comparable to that of artificial diamond, which greatly reduces the cost. Currently, nano titanium carbide has been used in the United States, Japan, Russia and other countries.  The abrasives, grinding wheels and grinding paste manufactured by nano titanium carbide materials can greatly improve the grinding efficiency, grinding accuracy and surface finish.

4.Powder metallurgy field: nano titanium carbide powder is used as raw material for powder metallurgy production of ceramics and hard alloy parts, such as wire drawing die, hard alloy die, etc.  Nano titanium carbide carbide has the following characteristics: (1) high hardness, generally up to HRA90;  (2) Good wear resistance and low wear rate;  (3) Good resistance to high temperature and oxidation;  (4) Good thermal conductivity, good chemical stability.
