Molybdenum target can form thin films on various substrates, which are widely used in electronic components and electronic products.

Properties of molybdenum sputtering targets

The properties of molybdenum sputtering target are the same as the source material (pure molybdenum or molybdenum alloy).  Molybdenum is a metal element mainly used in iron and steel. Most of the industrial molybdenum oxide is directly used in steelmaking or cast iron after pressing, and a small amount of molybdenum is smelted into ferro molybdenum or molybdenum foil and then used in steelmaking.  It improves the alloy's strength, hardness, weldability and toughness, as well as its resistance to high temperature and corrosion.

Application of molybdenum sputtering target in flat panel display

In the electronic industry, the application of molybdenum sputtering target is mainly concentrated in planar display, thin film solar cell electrode and wiring material and semiconductor barrier layer material. These materials are based on molybdenum with high melting point, high conductivity and low specific impedance, and have good corrosion resistance and environmental protection performance.  Molybdenum is one of the preferred materials for sputtering target of flat panel display due to its advantages of only half of impedance and film stress of chromium and no environmental pollution.  In addition, the brightness, contrast, color and life of LCD can be greatly improved by adding molybdenum into LCD components.

Application of molybdenum sputtering target in thin film solar photovoltaic cells

CIGS are an important type of solar cell used to convert sunlight into electricity.  CIGS is composed of four elements: copper (Cu), indium (In), gallium (Ga) and selenium (Se).  Its full name is copper indium gallium Selenium thin film solar cell.  CIGS has the advantages of strong light absorption capacity, good power generation stability, high conversion efficiency, long daytime power generation time, large power generation, low production cost and short energy recovery period.

The molybdenum target is deposited into the electrode layer of CIGS thin film battery.  Molybdenum is at the bottom of the solar cell.  As the back contact of solar cells, it plays an important role in nucleation, growth and morphology of CIGS thin film crystals.

Molybdenum niobium (MoNb) targets are used by sputtering coating as conductive, covering and blocking layers in HDTVS, tablets, smartphones and other mobile devices.
