Molybdenum oxide is the chemical compound with the formula MoOx. It is a violet-colored solid and is a metallic conductor. It crystallizes in a monoclinic cell, and has a distorted rutile, (TiO2) crystal structure.

Application

MoOx can be used as a dehydrogenation catalyst for alcohols, or as a reforming catalyst for hydrocarbons or biodiesel. Molybdenum nanowires can be prepared by reducing molybdenum dioxide deposited on graphite. Molybdenum oxide also has the potential to be used as an anode for lithium-ion batteries.
