Chilean copper production rose 2.3 per cent in the first half from a year earlier

Chile's national Copper corporation (Codelco) produced 151,600 tonnes of copper in June, up 14.9 per cent year on year, the Chilean copper Commission (Cochilco) announced on Tuesday, MiningWeekly reported, citing Reuters.In the first half, Codelco copper production was up 6.8 per cent year on year.

BHP's Escondida copper mine produced 82,900 tonnes in June, down 21.65 per cent from a year earlier, and first-half output was down 14.9 per cent from a year earlier.

Escondida has reduced some operations since the coronavirus outbreak, including reducing production of electrolytic copper, resulting in 11 consecutive months of reduced output.

Meanwhile, glencore's Collahuasi copper mine, a joint venture with Anglo American, produced 53,900 tonnes in July, down 6.7 per cent from a year earlier and up 2.7 per cent for the first six months.

Cochilco estimated national copper production at 477,300 tonnes in June, up 2.3 per cent from a year earlier.
