Indium foil-a thermal interface material

Publish Time: 2021-10-01     Origin: Site

Indium foil is made by pure Indium Ingot which is very soft and shapable metal, it has great thermal conductivity used in efficient heat sink for high temperature and cryogenic applications.

Indium metal name sources

Indium derives its name from the characteristic indigo line in its spectrum. It is a soft, malleable and ductile metal which is generally unaffected by air or water but is soluble in acids. It is found only in the form of minor components of various minerals (as are gallium and thallium, other members of the boron group of elements in the periodic table) and the pure element is produced by electrolytic reduction in aqueous solution. It has an abundance in the earth's crust of 0.049 ppm.

Indium metal foil application

Indium foil is widely used in nuclear facilities to capture thermal neutrons, because it shows a high cross section of neutron capture reaction. Hence, it may be used in dosemeters to measure exposure. Indium foils were studied for simultaneous monitoring neutron and photon intensities in a reactor core.
