Oiled packing of magnesium and workpiece

In order to prevent magnesium alloy materials and workpieces from being polluted or corroded during storage and transportation, it should be coated with oil within 48 hours after passing inspection, and protective oil must be removed before use. Therefore, the requirements for anticorrosive oil are as follows: it has strong anticorrosion performance and is easy to seal and remove oil, and it should be economical and reasonable, and the oil layer should not be too thick.

Commonly used anti-rust oil is mineral oil containing a variety of corrosion inhibitors, corrosion inhibitors for oxidation wax, water soluble sulfonate, fatty acids, esters, soaps, etc., they form a layer of hydrophobic corrosion inhibition polymer film on the contact surface of oil and magnesium, with quite strong protective function.

Magnesium alloys are prone to corrosion under natural conditions. In addition to the protection methods listed in Table 1, it is also necessary to do the following during transportation, storage and use:

1. Magnesium and workpiece shall not be exposed to the damp air for a long time, not to fog, rain.

2. When storing magnesium and workpiece, it is forbidden to contact directly with acid, alkali, salt and other substances.

3. The humidity of the warehouse storing magnesium and workpiece shall not be more than 75%, and the temperature shall not change dramatically.

4. Magnesium and workpiece transportation must be sealed and covered to prevent dampness. If mild corrosion is found, it must be unsealed, degreased, cleaned and dried as soon as possible, and then repackaged.

5. When magnesium and workpiece are stored for a long time, regular inspection and necessary anti-corrosion treatment must be carried out.

Safety and hygiene in surface treatment

Magnesium and magnesium oxide are non-toxic, but do not inhale a large amount of dirt, dust and other foreign impurities, there are no reports of handling magnesium alloys (including those containing thorium), mechanical finishing, pickling harmful to human health.

Chunks of magnesium and magnesium alloy only be heated to its melting point near the end of the combustion, due to their high thermal conductivity of magnesium, won't appear serious hot spot, in order to keep the solid form of casting and machined part, there is no risk of fire, unless contact with open flame, but cutting, dry sand blasting, grinding, sanding, polishing, polishing magnesium produced a large number of fine grain,Will be burned by sparks or other heat sources, therefore, in this kind of operation, it is necessary to collect all the dust generated to allow the use of wet containers, avoid sparks or contact with other fire, and timely transported to a safe place for storage, can reduce the risk of magnesium and dust combustion to the minimum.
